A wonderful introduction to a N.O. neighborhood

A wonderful introduction to a N.O. neighborhood

“We booked the Garden District walking tour and are so very glad we did! It was wonderful. Our guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable. He was a seasoned, mature guide who did a very professional job. He took us to the Lafayette cemetery first and told us a lot about the people who came to New Orleans a long time ago. He also explained how multiple people are buried in a tomb. We walked around the streets, always finding shade while Dave explained the different architectural styles. He pointed out the homes of movie stars, authors and the childhood home of Eli and Peyton Manning. A gardener, who knew Dave, invited us into the gated grounds of a large, vacant mansion. We really enjoyed the tour and the neighborhood. We walked past Commander’s Palace (and went back a few nights later for an incredible dinner). We met at The Rink, a cute repurposed skating rink (?) that has cute stores like Judy at the Rink (bought some jewelry there), a bookstore, a coffee shop and other little shops. To get there, we rode the #12 bus from Canal Street.”
