The Spiritualist Seance Experience

19th century New Orleans was a hotbed for the Spiritualist Movement which was based upon communicating with spirits of the deceased. The movement in New Orleans became a driving force behind equal rights and abolitionist efforts. Learn the riveting history of Spiritualist seances from historian Rob Florence, participate in a seance with an experienced medium, along with live music from Rob Florence’s play Holy Wars which conveys the Spiritualist experience. He scored this play with musical luminaries Harold Brown, Bill Summers and Sunpie Barnes. Find out if the spirits are inclined to respond!

Burlesque NOLA

Experience the outrageous history of New Orleans as a 20th century burlesque hot spot from a learned authority, along with scintillating images. Learn the stories of the larger-than-life ladies who brilliantly combined sensuality and theatricality throughout the 20th century, as well as the 21st century burlesque revival. The experience includes a live burlesque performance as well as live music and craft cocktails.

NOLA Literary Craft Cocktail 

Though New Orleans is most well known for music, cuisine, and architecture, its literary heritage is just as staggering and significant. Participate in this interactive experience where we read from the works of monumental writers associated with New Orleans, including Mark Twain, William Faulkner, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Eudora Welty, Jack Kerouac, Truman Capote, Charles Bukoswki and more, as well as imbibing these writers’ favorite cocktails. There will be an opportunity to try your hand at New Orleans-inspired writing! This experience is led by Rob Florence, a published author and produced playwright who holds an MFA in Creative Writing and has taught on a university level.

New Orleans is the world’s richest musical city and its traditions are participatory. Start with the city’s astonishing musical traditions; every form of American popular music has emanated from here. Hear demonstrations of these many styles from seasoned New Orleans musicians and finally, participate in a percussion jam with the magic of New Orleans rhythm and harmony!
